In the fall of 1940, a dynamic Delta joined the faculty of Lincoln High School, Chickasha, Oklahoma in the person of Soror Sue Mathis King. She was a dedicated classroom teacher and equally interested in seeking others into this sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta.
The spring of 1941, she had five to seek this honorable sisterhood, this being the required number to establish a chapter.
May 1941, these five, namely Jennie E. Baker, Mamye R. Brooks, Irene G. Dickerson, Bertha C. Fletcher, and Martha S. Simpson traveled to Kansas State College, Pittsburg, Kansas, through Alpha Rho Sigma Chapter, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Alma Marsh, President, for initiation. After a rugged initiation, we traveled back to Oklahoma, affiliated with the Alpha Rho Chapter for one year.
On March 8, 1942, the fourth Greek letter Sorority Chapter of Oklahoma was chartered. Installation services for the chapter were held Sunday afternoon, March 9, 1942, in the beautiful home of Soror Elesta Jones, Langston, Oklahoma. Here, the Charter was granted and duly set up by the Central Regional Director, Soror Mary E. Buford, assisted by Sorors Corine Ramsey and Fairchild of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Chapter grew rapidly. Many members entered our sisterhood from surrounding areas, Lawton, Duncan, Anadarko, Tatums, Geary, and Watonga. Many scholarships were given to deserving students.
"Article 2, Section B provides that Alumnae Chapters shall be identified by the name of the city and state in which they are located. This means that the Greek letter designation of former chapters will no longer apply."
Thus, Beta Kappa Sigma's name was assigned by Grand Chapter – Chickasha, Oklahoma Alumnae Chapter.
As the years passed, sorors increased in Lawton and decreased to only three members in Chickasha, thus we agreed by common consent that the Chapter be transferred to Lawton, consequently, It became Lawton, Oklahoma Alumnae Chapter.
